ABOUT HDWEST
Every hdwest item starts out the same- materials are gathered, pieces are measured and hand cut from various types of leather hides to be painted.
No two designs are just alike meaning no stencils are used and multiples are not made -you’ll be wearing an original! Layers and shades of color, distressing and dye are used to create the signature look.
Once the design work is completed edges are beveled, smoothed, buffed and the piece is sealed, ready for assembly. A mix of gluing, stitching, and rivets are used to build each one of a kind piece.
ABOUT THE MAKER
Hey guys! I'm Amanda, and I'm the maker/painter lady around here!
I stumbled into leatherwork just shy of 10 years ago. I started out strictly just painting on already made leather items (you might remember the painted boots I did in the early days). One day I picked up a bag of leather scraps from the craft store and decided to give making painted cuffs a go, they weren’t all that great but my eyes were opened! With lots of trial and error, research & online tutorials I eventually built my technique & skill. Being self taught was/is frustrating at times but its something I am so thankful for as I feel it helped to develop my style.
Besides painting I like wearing funky clothes, hunting for vintage turquoise, thrifting, redoing furniture & hitting the road on new adventures.
Thanks for checking out my work!
